New Horse Coats and Visible Tack Coming Soon To Howrse!

$
0
0
According to the Inside Howrse blog, a new big change is soon coming! The new Horse Coats!

You all remember the Horse Parade Promo of the summer? The horses had very realistic coats and visible tack.
That is what's coming to Howrse!
You will have visible, decorated tack, and it will be on your horse's picture. If you have no tack, there will be no tack. The saddle pad, saddle, and bridle, will be required to enter a competition. The bonnet and leg wraps will just be added bonuses if you want them. Howrse will also be completely removing Horseshoes, which means all the people on Howrse who are currently farriers will become simply bonuses to the prestige of the EC center they work at, they will no longer offer free horse shoes.
This is what the new coats for the Thoroughbred (I think) will look like:
This is what the new coats on the new horse's page background, with full tack, will look like:
You will also not be able to see tack on Divines, Specials, Wilds, GA, DA, and RC horses. But, according to Howrse, there will be a solution for those issues coming soon.
It is not clear when this will occur but probably in the next few weeks, since a post was made on it.

What do I think of these changes? Well....

I like the new coats a lot, I really do. I especially like the new warm-blood's coats s the old ones look very silly. I am eager to see the Arabian and Mustang coats as well and I think it was due time to change it again.

But I am sorry to say I HATE the tack.
It looks totally ridiculous. It clutters up the horse's page. I can't even imagine the monstrosity of a look that will occur when Howrse forces this horrible, ugly stuff on my beautiful GAs and RCs.
No more horse shoes? The blog post said they wre making the game more realistic with this change, and how can that be without horse shoes? The reason given for taking them away is that you can't see them on the horse. Too bad I say- I want horse shoes!
I'm not going to be at all happy with this. I don't seem my learning to love something that looks this dumb either.
But I will adapt I guess- as usual.
Even in the WNTP in the ideas forum, it said "Visible tack- visible tack is an option which will never be brought to Howrse. Howrse is not a dress up game."
They can't even seem to follow their own rules.

Ahh well, I just wish I was aloud to uncheck a "see visible tack on horses" button in My Account or something- but I guess they aren't giving us a choice.

As Always, Happy Howrseing,

The Giant Plants

$

The newest promo is a bit like the vegetable garden promo of the summer, in fact it's the same, but with different things to plant and a different Divine to win. Even the daily objectives are vaguely familiar.

In this promo you plant seeds and keep them watered to harvest gifts from them, and evetually, your plant that you can harvest a Divine from will be matured and you can harvest it.
Pass buyers hold the advantage here as you get fertilizer in HoPs and your divine plant, the Divinitis, will only make it by the ending date with a LOT of fertilizer. Most plants gain about 10% a day average, but this plant can only get 1% a day and 1% from fertilizer so you'll be spending well over 100 passes on it if you hope to get anything.

The way it works is you plant seeds in the garden plots, water them ever so many hours, and if you want to spend the passes fertilize them too. You can win a lot of free tack apples, turnips, BMIs ranging from 1 pass things like C. fortunes or WoYs, to expensive or priceless things like Nyx packs or Hestia's gifts or Hermes' Winged Staff.
Eventually you will get to unlock more plots and grow more at once and get a seed for the Divinitis plant, and you can grow the new Divine, Agate with it

A little about Agate fomr the horse's ? tab:

"Agate is a valuable horse.
The turnip button can change into a diamond button and give you the opportunity to win one diamond.

You can increase its skills using diamonds."

It doesn't say that it's a gemstone horse although it looks like one and awards diamonds and can be boosted skill wise with them, like all the gemstone divines, so that seems to be a gray area.

This is Agate:
Good luck in the Giant Plant promo!

As always, happy Howrseing,
~Cass <3

Many Changes, And The Loss of the Ideas Forum!

$

Yep, you heard right. The ideas forum is going to be permanently removed.

Before I give you my opinion on that, though, we'll have the run down on January's changes:

  • They've changed all the special horses to divine horses so no one can confuse them
  • The new Helios' Ray template, that fills the whole screen, will be added
  • The ideas forum is closing down on the tenth of February. I assume It will be deleted.
  • When you register your horses for a competition, you don't see comps you have two horses entered in already
  • When you register Divines in comps you don't see comps you have already entered
  • VIP players aren't blocked when one click registering their Divines in comps anymore

My Thoughts

Well, you probably already guessed it so I'll keep it short: I hate that they are getting rid of the Ideas forum. Is it just me or is Howrse no longer a democracy? They don't seem to care a hoot about players and their opinions anymore. Even if some of the ideas are annoying and no what you were "hoping for" we're not physic. Add the ideas YOU want your own self and we'll do what we can in the forum for our freedom. Makes sense to me.
We are removing the idea forum because it isn’t exploitable in its current state. There are too many different propositions on a variety of themes.

We also get more accurate feedback that corresponds to the things we are working on when we ask questions, like with the Equestrian Centres or new coats and equipment polls.

We of course want to continue getting your opinions, suggestions and advice.

But it makes more sense to harness and focus the whole community’s creative juices on specific topics that requires its insight, rather than on ideas that may be too distant from our vision for the game.

Huh. Sounds to me like they don't like our ideas... Like the Sleipner running away again, or adding a different, "safe" type of forum like the classifieds that doesn't let you scam... ideas that are intuitive and helpful always seem to get locked, so now they're getting rid of the whole forum. Of course they still want our opinions, but only on the things they ASK for our opinions on. They don't seem to care about our opinions on anything else.
Take their alternative for instance: they want to post polls a few weeks before changes happen and see how much we like or dislike THEIR ideas. Lovely. Too bad they don't actually pay any attention to what anybody says in those topics. When the horse coat poll was up they talked about how they'd be adding the visible tack possibly, and over half the people in the thread (yes, I do mean that, over half) were strongly against that idea (including me).
That didn't appear to phase them from forcing it on us anyway,

In a roundabout way, I've been wondering if Howrse is going to remove our EC forums. The removal of the ideas forum makes me wonder more.
I can honestly say that I'm not sure if I'd even want to play Howrse anymore if they got rid of our forums. I would delete my account. I can think of quite a few players who would do the same... but Howrse drives away players all the time and they don't seem to care (and they wonder why they have money problems) so it's not like that's a threat or anything.

I wonder if mods or admins ever read this.... I highly doubt it. Even if they did, I have no expectation of it changing anything.

What do you think? Answer the poll below!

Yep, you heard right!
I know I always said it wasn't possible for free but I finally found a way to do it so as you've asked, I've brought it to TBH!
I've always wanted TBHers to know that this is another sort of Howrse community, not just a stagnant webpage and a one girl show. I have found a way to really show you! A community!
Yes, we've tried different kinds of forums in the past but that didn't turn out so hot.
Yes, we have comments on the site now to drive more interaction.
Yes, I answer all emails and PMs and tweets and G+s and stuff, so you know I exist. (I hope anyway XD)
But this is something very different... this is a small community!

If you haven't noticed yet, there's a new tab on the top of the nav bar- the FAQ is now under Gameplay, to make room for the Official TBHers tab!
This is a simple, free offer that you can take up to get access to some really cool special features.
Just click here to sign up!
What exactly do you get when you sign up?
  • A "Writing desk" where you can submit your writing for other official TBHers to read
  • A TBH Ideas forum where TBHers can access a forum for them to suggest articles or features for TBH
  • A Pre-updates blog where you can read about upcoming updates and the progress of them, and help develop them
  • A special set if "VIP" forums to chat in, which are kind of being built but are functional
  • An objectives help club, where people can help others with their objectives
  • We'll have a suggestions topic for other clubs to come to TBH, and they needn't be Howrse related
  • All members pages have a special comments box that already knows you're a member, so you don't have to fill it in
  • You get access to special graphics that non-TBHers don't (mainly because they're SO MUCH WORK! lol)
  • You'll get a Private Message service here on the site- meaning that you can PM other TBHers right here!
  • All pages are strictly members only so all our secrets are safe to the general public, lol
  • There'll be lots more features to come, which I'm not quite ready to say anything about yet...

You can click here to sign up!
It's still a WISP (Work In Serious Progress) but the only way to find out if it's working is to get a member or two (or more, hopefully) to join!
If you can't think of a reason to join, then ask yourself: Can you think of a solid reason not to? If you can't think of a downside, then jump on the bandwagon! It'll be fun, of that I'm sure!

A bit of a late post I must say, but still, better late than never I suppose.

The Snowballs are a promo where the UFOs have been replaced by snowballs. You can catch them just like UFOs and when you do you'll be taken to the contest page where you can throw the now caught snowball to anyone on your friends list. You get a gift [the same old stuff that's in regular UFOs] and if you throw it to a friend, they'll also get that gift. If you don't throw it you'll lose the second gift.
The top 10 throwers will get a Nyx pack, the next 40 will get a Horn of Plenty, and the next 50 will get a Medusa's Blood.
After that your gifts are the things you won from the snowballs.
Have fun!

The Lottery

The forever reoccurring lottery is sweeping Howrse again!

As usual, tickets for the lottery draw cost 200e a piece, with the price tripling after every purchase- the second is 600e, etc.

The prizes range from:

  • Smalls [turnips, apples, under 5000e, tack, H. blankets, F wands, C. fortunes, A. Lyres, WoYs, etc]
  • Mediums [Bonus packs, 5000e - 10,000e, C timers, customization BMIs, etc]
  • Highs [Pack BMIs, Unavailable BMIs, 10,000e plus, etc]

You can get tickets by buying them, having your friends send them, winning comps, spend a pass on something in the game [every pass you spend gets you 4 tickets for the next draw- not counting horses or black pearls]. YOu can also win tickets for the next draw with your tickets.

There are some special things that will be won only a few times, as well.
So far players have won one of each, but more will likeley be awarded.
Most are self explanatory, but the Treasure Chest is not- it's like an HOP that awards you tons of BMIs and sometimes 1000 passes or aging points!

The different tickets are different colors. Green for won tickets, reddish-pink for friend's tickets. gray for horse won tickets, gold for pass won tickets.

While there's no direct correlation to passes, I would say passes are a huge advantage for this promo.

Also, there's no way to watch a video for the lottery yet- there's a good chance of it coming though.
It often takes a few days for them to add it- there may also be a direct pass option later on.

One more thing of note- there is not a new divine being released with this promo, which is a good thing for the value of many other divines.

How to succeed in the lottery?

It's really not hard and there's nothing to it.

In the first draw I buy one ticket. Then I see where that goes. There's a good chance that you'll get a free ticket out of the deal- and if you do, you don't need to buy one next time if you don't want to.
I personally buy one ticket per draw and use the other methods to get my other tickets. I mostly win them with my tickets from other draws, and once you start it's a chain of free tickets that doesn't stop.
I bought one ticket for the first draw, and won five tickets. I bought one more, and for the next draw I won four tickets, my friends gave me three, and I bought one- I've only spent 400e on the whole lottery, and have had a lot of turnips and smalls and a couple mediums- not bad for the money, I must say. :)

Equestrian Center Updates On The Way!

$
0
0
Updates for the EC are coming to Howrse! I have no idea when, but the best one can say is this year. ;)

The first thing Howrse wants to do is change the interface of the pages. Like the boxes, meadows, horses in boarding, etc etc. Maybe it will be a nicer arrangement than now- I do hope so. Some of the boxes and bedding pages are a little confusing.
Something I really dislike, is the removal of jobs. They say that jobs are really too hard for us, so they'd rather just remove them. Personally I like having jobs, and I don't find it hard. There's always a job when I need one and I can hire at my center when I need to. Plus I like a free almost 300e every day. :) But I'll be losing that.... they're replacing the farriers and saddlers with buying saddles, bridles, and horseshoes separately for each of your boxes. Can you imagine how much that will cost? Showers are the most hard to buy thing out there without passes, and I get the feeling that farriers and saddlers will become mostly a pass buyer's perk. But we'll wait and see. Maybe it'll turn out to be better.
They're also gonna add locations- beaches, mountains, and forests. You will build your EC at one of those places. Thus the rides for horses will just have rides in meadows, beaches, and mountains. It sounds like Howrse making it so just long rides daily will take care of your horse's riding needs instead of the usual schedules with lots of different long and short rides to confuse you.
With the locations will come supplies. For instance if you build on a forest, you can gather wood with the help of your horses and then "build" your own boxes and bedding and stuff.
Everything in the store now will be made by players, which means the price and supply will depend on US, not Howrse. I can't decide if that'll be good or bad for the economy but we'll see.
They will merge the reserve of your own Equus with your EC's Equus. This should be good, actually, as there'll be more ways to make money for yourself and more ways to make money for your EC since the ways for each will be combined.
Horses will now be strongly influenced by what EC they are in. Their energy and morale usage will be dependent on their EC's quality and location, and rides will be too.
They're also dumping lessons. They will be replaced by missions for horses that the EC provides. The missions will award you prizes. That's all well and good but I can't believe we'll lose the skill gains of lessons! 60e centers won't mean anything anymore. We'll have to change all out training schedules.
Although they are still unknown, VIPs will get special perks for their ECs. Some players will be outraged by it I know. Personally, I don't care- they;re paying to keep Howrse around so they BETTER get some serious advantageous over us who don't pay anything.
Finally, they'll add more SMIs. FINALLY. We've needed something new for the Secret Market for a long time.

What do you think of the changes? Comment below!

The Horse Parade Is Back!

The horse parade is back again!
As many players will remember, the horse parade will involve dressing up horses for the promo and earning points, which you can trade in for tack, BMIs, Equus, and sometimes passes and SMIs and EC store items, etc etc.

You can get tack by:

-Logging daily
-Winning comps (only 1 a day)
-Finding Tubs of Grease (only 1 a day)
-Buy them in the flash sales

After that you equip the loaned horse with the tack before the timer runs out.
My advice is not to turn in a horse with less tack than possible unless you don't have a choice- if you KNOW the timer will run out before you get the bonnet, then wait, but don't turn it in until you KNOW you're out of your available tack. If you want to get BMIs, you need as much points as possible, as things get more expensive after you buy something.

You may win tack by watching videos as well, and if you pay Equus (the price is different for everyone) you can get 40% more points on that particular horse.

I find it a bit strange that Howrse is encouraging it's players to pay off the judges, but regardless, that's the scoop on the Horse Parade.

Good luck everyone!

As always, Happy Howrseing,
~Cass <3

Non-Pass buyers VS Pass Buyers- what does it matter?

$
0
0
This is a subject people argue about all the time. I want to say what I think is the way this argument should be settled.

Non pass buyers aren't evil because they refuse to support the game, and pass buyers aren't evil for trumping broke people.

Non pass buyers can earn free passes and can make it to the top 50 in the General ranking, and then they can get the VIP account and continue to compete equally with those above their ranking. Pass buyer can buy the account and do basically the same thing.

Pass buyers pay for the game, yes, but luckily there's enough of them that I and my friends and many TBHers can play for free. We should be thanking every pass buyer we meet for paying our dues for us- they don't HAVE to, you know.

When the VIP account was announced on Howrse's wordpress blog, people in the comments inevitably said the same thing: "What about us non pass buyers?"
My mental reaction was always "What about you?"

A specialty account has to cost passes. Otherwise it wouldn't be a specialty account. You can get the Pegasus account without buying passes, and you can do the VIP without passes too, if you are dedicated and willing to work hard enough. You can be a top breeder without buying passes, you can be a top ranked player without buying passes, you can have a top EC without passes.... you can do anything a Pass buyer can do without passes. It takes more work is all.
You know you've earned everything you have if you're sitting pretty at number one as a non pass buyer. That says something about work ethic.

I just wanted to say that no kind of player is better than the other, and if we'd all work together, we could probably get a lot more done that we get by complaining because someone has something better than you do. ;)

As always, Happy Howrseing,
~Cass <3
